An accessible site, held to our own standard.
What we aim for, how we check it, and what is not perfect yet. If anything here blocks you, email hello@optimisticweb.co and a person will help.
Our commitment
We build websites for cities, counties, school districts and nonprofits, many of which must meet the ADA Title II web rule. Our own site should meet the same bar we hold their sites to: WCAG 2.1 Level AA, and WCAG 2.2 AA where we can.
Where this site stands
We believe most of this site meets WCAG 2.1 AA. We have not yet completed a full independent audit of every page, so we describe it as partially conformant until we have. We would rather tell you that plainly than claim more than we can show.
How we check it
- Automated testing with axe-core on our key pages, including the home page, the website grader and the giving-path review.
- Keyboard-only checks of navigation, forms and the scheduler.
- Screen reader spot checks of our forms and lead pages.
- Colour contrast checked against the 4.5:1 AA minimum for text.
Recent fixes
- October 2026: darkened small grey and amber text that fell below the AA contrast minimum.
- October 2026: added a pause button to the home page background video, and show a still image to anyone who has asked their device to reduce motion.
Known limitations
- Older PDFs. Some older downloadable PDFs may not be fully tagged. If you need one in an accessible format, ask and we will send it within two business days.
- Portfolio videos. Background and portfolio videos are silent and decorative. If a video carries information you need, tell us and we will describe it in text.
- Third-party tools. Embedded tools we do not control, such as payment pages and video players, may not fully conform. We choose vendors with accessibility in mind and report problems to them.
Tell us about a barrier
If something on this site does not work for you, email hello@optimisticweb.co with the page and what happened. A person reads every message. We aim to reply within two business days, and to fix confirmed barriers or give you the content another way in the meantime.
