Louisville Recovery Community Connection
A recovery community center website with a living meeting calendar, resources, and an anonymous Gambling Check-In built on request in a day.
LRCC is a peer-run recovery community center in Louisville, Kentucky: a safe place to meet, with a calendar of recovery meetings, yoga, Dharma, SMART Recovery and LGBTQ+ groups every week. Optimistic hosts and supports the site on Flywheel and makes changes the same week staff ask: moving recurring meeting series to new days through the calendar plugin's own data layer with backups, and building new tools. When the grant administrator asked for the three-question problem-gambling screen from their resource guide as a live, anonymous check-in, it was live the next day.
A community center runs on its calendar. We keep LRCC's current, and build the tools staff ask for.
A recovery center's website is only as useful as its calendar is accurate. Meetings move, hosts change, and the people looking for Tuesday night Dharma or Wednesday yoga need to trust what the site says. Staff send changes by email, often in a sentence, and expect them live quickly, without a developer rewriting the calendar by hand.
The Gambling Check-In added a second kind of request: a screening tool where anyone can answer three questions privately and be pointed to help if any answer is yes, with nothing stored, tracked or visible in the browser history afterwards.
One journey, applied to Louisville Recovery Community Connection.
Support
Calendar changes go through The Events Calendar Pro's own series data, not the database by hand: back up the series rows, update the start date and recurrence rule through the plugin's meta hooks so every occurrence regenerates, flush caches, then check the public page. Two series were corrected this way in September, 40 occurrences each, with old links still redirecting.
Build on request
The Gambling Check-In asks the three questions from the Brief Biosocial Gambling Screen one at a time with Yes and No buttons. Any Yes goes straight to a resources page; three No answers show a reassuring result that still offers support. The redirect replaces the history entry so the answers cannot be revisited with the back button, and nothing is submitted or stored.
Match the site
Both new pages use the site's existing hero gradient, Lato headings and pill buttons, pick up the header and footer automatically, and were checked at phone width. Gambling Check-In sits under Resources in the main menu; the resources page lists the Kentucky 988 line from the flyer plus 1-800-GAMBLER, the Kentucky Council on Problem Gambling, Gamblers Anonymous, Gam-Anon and LRCC itself.
