North Valley School District

One district, one clear front door — with room for every school to be itself.

North Valley is a fast-growing K–12 district: one central organization and seventeen schools, each with its own community, mascot, and personality. We designed the whole identity — the district's Sunrise Valley mark, a mascot crest for every school, the palette, the type, the voice — and then built the website system it lives on, so every family knows where to go, what to do next, and who to contact while each school still feels like home. This is a concept piece, built to demonstrate our approach; the district and schools are illustrative.

Seventeen schools that finally feel like one district — without flattening what makes each one special.

The challenge

North Valley had grown from a handful of neighborhood schools into a district of seventeen sites — and its web presence had grown the same way: one site at a time. Every school had built its own page, at a different time, on a different tool, with a different idea of where things should live. Families paid the price, hunting across mismatched sites for a lunch menu, a bell schedule, or who to call.

The risk was never any single page — it was coherence. The district needed every property on-brand, accessible, and genuinely manageable by a small team, without becoming a fragile pile of one-off sites. The brief: make the scale feel organized, not overwhelming.

The approach

One journey, applied to North Valley School District.

01

Brand the district

We designed the Sunrise Valley identity — a sheltering shield with a rising sun over layered hills — plus a trustworthy palette (district navy, sunrise gold, sky blue, valley green) and a warm, plain-spoken voice in Plus Jakarta Sans + Inter.

02

Design the system

A shared component kit — find-your-school, six audience front doors, parent quick-links, emergency alerts, news and calendar — so every school launches on the same accessible, mobile-first foundation.

03

Give each school identity

Each school gets its own mascot, color accent, hero, motto, and principal voice — riding on the same rails. One family, three (then seventeen) distinct personalities.

Govern & scale

CMS roles and templates let a lean team keep seventeen sites consistent and current — schools update their own content safely, the district keeps the brand and accessibility intact.

Everything that keeps seventeen schools feeling like one district: the logo and its meaning, a bright and trustworthy palette, type that stays clear at any size, a plain-spoken voice, and a small component kit — built as a living system, not a static PDF.

The identity system

One shield. A crest for every school.

We did not design four logos — we designed a family. The district's Sunrise Valley shield sets the shape, weight, and badge language; each school then earns its own mascot and signature color inside that system. Side by side they read as one district; on their own, each has real personality. The same logic carries to all seventeen schools.

Aspen Ridge

Cedar Creek
Home of the Otters Cedar Creek A playful otter over a creek line in teal and orange — curious and hands-on, the newer campus by the water.
Meadowbrook
Home of the Meadowlarks Meadowbrook A meadowlark in bright sky-blue and sunshine — welcoming and joyful, built for the district's newest families.
What’s inside

One system, built to scale to seventeen schools

Find your school by address

Every family starts in the same place and lands on the right school in seconds — no org charts required.

Six audience front doors

New families, current families, students, staff, board & community, and careers — each a focused, jargon-free path.

Parent quick-links, everywhere

Attendance, lunch menu, calendar, supply lists, parent portal, transportation, before & after care, and contact — standard on every school site.

Emergency alerts

A district-wide and per-school alert system that is impossible to miss, reserved strictly for the moments that matter.

Accessible by default

WCAG 2.1 AA baked into the components — color contrast, keyboard paths, and translation built in, not bolted on.

Governed CMS

Role-based editing and shared templates keep seventeen sites consistent while letting each school stay current on its own.

Inside the system

One family. Three distinct schools.

Same navigation, same parent quick-links, same accessibility and footer — but each school gets its own mascot, color, hero, and story. Open any one and feel both the consistency and the character.

Aspen Ridge Elementary

“A warm place to grow, learn, and belong.”

One of North Valley's original neighborhood schools, with a strong reputation for reading, community, and parent involvement — but an outdated site that hid all of it behind buried PDFs and old announcements.

We kept the warmth and made it findable: a deep forest-green and aspen-gold identity, parent resources surfaced on the homepage, and a clear story for new families.

  • Warm, established identity — forest green & aspen gold
  • Parent resources surfaced, not buried
  • Reading & community front-and-center

Cedar Creek Elementary

“Where curiosity finds a path.”

A newer west-side campus with beautiful architecture and a hands-on teaching model — but a generic template that looked like every other page in the district and said nothing about what made it special.

We gave Cedar Creek a curious, exploratory identity in creek teal and otter orange, brought its STEM and outdoor learning forward, and built a clear pathway for the new families moving in.

  • Distinct identity — creek teal & otter orange
  • STEM & outdoor learning brought forward
  • A clear pathway for new west-side families

Meadowbrook Elementary

“A bright beginning for every learner.”

The fastest-growing neighborhood in the district, with a communication problem: families relied on Facebook groups, emails, and office calls because the old site never made the basics easy to find.

We built a bright, welcoming, mobile-first experience in sky blue and sunshine yellow — one clear parent hub and a simple kindergarten and new-family onboarding path.
