Under the U.S. Department of Justice’s 2024 ADA Title II rule, state and local government websites must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Communities of 50,000 or more must comply by April 26, 2027; smaller towns and special districts have until April 26, 2028. For most local governments, that deadline is close, and the current site almost certainly does not meet it.

Questions we get

What is the ADA website deadline for local governments?
The DOJ’s 2024 ADA Title II rule requires WCAG 2.1 AA. Governments serving 50,000+ people have an April 26, 2027 deadline; those under 50,000 and special districts have until April 26, 2028. We start with an assessment that tells you exactly where you stand and what it takes to get compliant in time. (We build and document to the standard; confirm your entity’s specific obligations with your counsel.)
Do we have to rebuild the whole site to comply?
Not always. Sometimes remediation of the current site is enough; sometimes a rebuild is the safer, cheaper long-term move. The Clarity Assessment gives you an honest recommendation either way, in writing, before you spend a dollar on a build.
Can you work within our procurement process or an RFP?

Will our own staff be able to keep it updated?
Yes. We build on maintainable foundations and train your team, with an optional care plan if you would rather we handle updates and keep it compliant over time.
